This project evolved after constant discussions with the creator, and long-time friend, Dan Johnson. In my last collaboration with Dan (Uprooted), I worked in traditional linocut printmaking (link here).

With this work, I wanted to digitally incorporate an intaglio copperplate printmaking aesthetic. Intaglio is effective in showcasing line work and detail. Before the final print is made the copper plate is burnished and etched, a process not usually seen in the final work-- it's this "unfinished", or in-progress, effect I'm trying to convey in this work.

The subject is inspired by elements within a companion story about a mask-maker seeking acceptance into a garden of immortals. You can find more about the story, album, and more of Dan's work at writtenbydaniel.com/fruitless
